Renewable Energy Education

Project Summary

The goal of this project is develop a set of training material and workshops in renewable energy (RE) technologies for students at trade schools and engineering schools in Morocco.

We hope this will contribute to creation of a pool of professionals with experience in RE. Having qualified professional will improve the quality of installation, manufacturing, and maintenance of RE systems.

The curriculum for trade schools will be slightly different from the engineering schools curriculum. The training material will consist of the following

  • A general RE review seminar (two hours) with focus on technologies most promising for Morocco
  • A series of workshops (1-2 days each) on specific RE topics. The content of the workshops is to be 50% lectures and 50% hands-on labs. The workshops are:
  • Passive energy collection (solar cooking, water heating, dryer, power plants)
  • Photo-voltaic (panels, electrical design, standards, batteries, water pumps)
  • Wind mills (mechanics, electricity)

Potential follow up  project is to work with faculty at trade and engineering schools on the following:

  • permanent RE labs for student training and research
  • semester long class on RE
  • students thesis projects on RE
  • design/research project on RE

Tasks, time estimates, and expected completion date

  • Draft seminar/workshops syllabus [1. Seminar, 2. Passive Solar Energy Workshop, 3. Wind Energy Workshop, 4. Photo-Voltaic Workshop]
  • Preliminary budget estimate: List and cost of gears for workshop labs - Completed [Workshop labs equipment list and cost]
  • Research renewable energy technologies that fits Moroccan needs/environment.
  • Prepare 'RE general review' seminar
  • Prepare workshop (lecture and labs) on passive solar energy collection
  • Prepare workshop (lecture and labs) on photo-voltaic
  • Prepare workshop (lecture and labs) on wind energy
  • Research candidate trade/engineering schools for training
  • Contact and Propose seminar/workshops to trade/engineering schools in Morocco
  • Organize shipping lab equipment to Morocco and/or buying equipment in Morocco
  • Deliver training at selected schools, and distribute training material to interested parties
